The role: Head of Entertainment Communications, YouTube

YouTube is hiring a Head of Communications based in its Beverly Hills office to serve as its central Los Angeles communications executive. Key responsibilities include communicating with journalists and industry members in the entertainment space about YouTube’s partners, channels and content initiatives. The candidate will be required to develop and execute on outreach plans and response strategies; create campaigns, communications materials, and executive presentations; and conduct routine meetings to inform press, partners, notables, agents, and managers about the business. YouTube is seeking a strong communicator with a deep understanding of the entertainment industry and business, established connections and relationships within the industry, as well as an appreciation for and knowledge of the tech sector, and a penchant for YouTube. The candidate is expected to collaborate with a variety of internal teams across YouTube and Google as well as provide communications guidance to senior leadership.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with YouTube senior executives and cross-functional teams (Content, Product, Business Development, Marketing, Sales) to develop effective, compelling and insightful communications materials, including press releases, statements, blog posts, executive presentations and story pitches.
  • Devise press strategies and provide communications guidance related to various YouTube initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain close, productive relationships with journalists, key partners and influencers in the entertainment (film, TV, music, web) industry.
  • Understand YouTube’s business model and the content partners who make it possible; identify and organize story opportunities to highlight successes.
  • Manage incoming media inquiries; devise responses and strategies to optimize press opportunities.
  • Represent YouTube as a company spokesperson for entertainment-related inquiries.
  • Organize and manage overall channel relationships and publicity campaigns.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree (In lieu of degree, 4 years relevant work experience).
  • 10 years relevant work experience in studio, network, agency or similar workplace
  • Experience in entertainment/consumer PR bringing entertainment product (film, television or new media) to the marketplace

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience providing communications guidance to senior executives and devising communications strategy
  • Deep understanding of entertainment and emerging business models as well as working within team cultures
  • Established relationships with entertainment, consumer and trade media
  • Ability to strategize, plan and execute on multiple projects simultaneously in an organized and creative fashion
  • Demonstrated ability to work calmly and maintain good judgement in fast-paced, high-stress environments
